VHS MEMORIALS

This page is dedicated to all the Vicenza Alumni who have passed on to more Golden pastures. They were our friends, brothers, sisters, husbands and wives and we miss them dearly. This is the least we can do to ensure our memories of them continue. God Bless all the Cougars.

Virginia Nix, Class of '61
Sharon Tate, Class of '61, A lovely and charming character who met a very tragic and untimely death.
Darryl Arboleda, Class of '62, Darryl had a congenital kidney defect, and died during surgery to treat resulting problems in Hawaii
Judy McGuire, Class of '62, killed in a traffic mishap in Iran in 1977. Left husband and 2 daughters.
Gene Oates, Class of '62, VHS salutatorian was killed in Vietnam.
Art Schultz, Class of '62, Died of an aneurysm in June of 2000. (click to read his memorial)
Tommy "George" Usry, Class of '62, died of lung Cancer.
Dave Smith, Class of '63, a very popular athlete was killed in Vietnam.
Robert Hill, Class of '65, died of cancer 1995 in Bremerhaven, Germany where he had retired after 30 years in the Army.
John Lindsey, Class of '65, a distinguished chemist, and one of the inventors of Gator-Ade, was killed in a car crash.
Susan Guill Wheatley, Class of '65, died in May of 1997 after an 8 month battle with cancer. She was a JV cheerleader and a sweetheart.
Phyllis Jones (Maskill), Class of '68, passed away in 1972 from childbirth complications. She never got to see our daughter - her husband Spencer Jones.
Connie Rosetto, Class of '68, was hit and killed by a car after getting off the school bus in Vicenza in 1967.
Jim Newberg, Class of '70, was killed in a car accident in Washington State during the summer following graduation.
Michael V Quackenbush, (Aviano/Vicenza '70) passed away of cancer in 1996.  His sister reports that "He loved our three years in Aviano and Vicenza as much as he loved the women and the Grappa."
Skip Powers, Class of '71 passed away because of an illness.
Steve Wilson, Class of '71 former VHS b-baller died in September of Pancreatic Cancer. His Obituary.
Donna Dinella D'Ambrosio, 'Class of 72 passed away in November, 2001.
ReDonna Faye Walker, (Aviano 72) passed away of leukemia around 72/73.
Andy Kohut, Class of 73, passed away Feburary 4, 2002.
Charlie Mearns, Class of 73 died in a car accident in Italy.
Alan "Rabbi" Stanlake, Class of 73, died of from injuries received in an accident, in the early 1980s. He was a lot of fun to be with and will be missed.
Greg Abramo, Class of '74, outstanding athlete and son of our "infamous" Chemistry teacher died in a drowning accident in 1977.
Judy Butcher, Class of 74, My wife's best friend passed away of cancer in 1982. We have a note from a friend that he received from her husband confirming her death. Her father was General Chester Butcher and she will be missed.
Timothy "Tim" Feehley, Class of 74, Passed away June 8, 1998 after a long hard battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He will be missed by many. Ciao brother.
Jeressa Holman, Class of 74, passed away August 20, 1999 of a long term cancer illness. A resident of San Antonio, TX. She left behind a daughter and husband. She will be missed.
Bill Kohlleppel, Class of 74, was killed while on duty as a Texas Dept of Public Safety Officer in April of 1985.
Cary Wilcomb, Class of 75, died at the age of 30 in the Washington D.C. area.
Rick Depriter, Class of '76, died in 1990. He was voted Most Likely To Succeed. He left behind a wife and children. Rick you will be sorely missed.
Michael Lemieux, Class of '76, Our sweet brother Michael died of AIDS in San Francisco in 1987.  He loved living in Italy.  He had the "biggest" and kindest heart of any person I have ever met.  He will be missed forever.  We love you Mikey!! - his sister Miki.
Stanley Tanner, Class of '76, died from a massive heart attack in 1999.
Joe Frushon, Class of '77, It is with a heavy heart I must tell everyone that Joe died on Tues May 19. He battled cancer for two years. Joe was a good friend to a lot of former Vicenza high school students. He will be missed.
Debbie C'DeBaca Wales, Class of '78, died in a car accident in Albuquerque, NM May 1996 .
Al Lopez , Class of '78, Albert was taken home by the Lord on Saturday, December 20, 2003. His Obituary .
Christiane Crowley, Class of '79, and daughter of VHS Physics Teacher, Bob Crowley, was hit by a car while riding her bike in Vicenza the summer after graduation in 1979.
Vicky (laskey) Penninton, Class of '79 - Died in car crash Oct. 8, 2001. She left a husband and two kids.
Barbara Valdez, Class of '79,  It is with great sadness that I inform the Vicenza community of the untimely death of our dear friend and classmate Barbara Valdez, Class of 1979.
Leslee Lugenbeal, Class of '81, died in 1987 of adrenal cancer. Leslie has a bench dedicated to her at the zoo in Colorado Springs, where she worked before she died.
Neil Flaherty, Class of '83, died unexpectedly of stomach cancer in 1980.
Anthony Galindo, Class of '83, drowned in 1988. Tony was involved in track and cross country--great runner. I know he would want his name here - his sister Franca.
Julie Ann Murray, Class of '83, Our daughter Julie Ann Murray was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver in 1990.
Patty Boudreaux, Class of '84, died with her husband in a car accident in 1989.
Brenda Beckler, Class of '85, drowned while scuba diving in the early 90's. Brenda ran track at VHS and went on to become an Air Force Officer.
Michael Jay Chandler, Class of '85, died November 7, 1990 in a UH-1H helicopter crash off the coast of Greece. Mike left behind a wife, Barbara (85') and daughter, Kristin.
Fred "Freddy" Parkins, Jr., Class of '85, passed away at his home and San Antonio on December 11, 2003. Freddy left behind a wife and four children as well as his mother, father and two brothers..
James R. Pratt, Class of '86, Drowned in a training accident in Coronado, California in July 1988.
Michelle Fulweiler, Class of '86, was killed September 10th in her home. This is a sad loss for those who knew and loved her, and especially for her family. Please join in heartfelt prayers for all involved.
Alan Guernsey, Class of '91, died in a car accident in 1993.
Jasin Kosan, Class of '93, died Oct 23, 1995 after being hit head-on by a train at the train tracks near Villaggio.
Daniel (Shane) Scott, Class of '92 died Oct 23, 1995 after being
hit at the train tracks near Villaggio.
Robert Aucion., Class of '94, Shortly after leaving Italy, Robert died in an auto accident in 1988 in Fairfax, Virginia.
Joe Paciencia Jr., Class of '98, died on December 04, 2001 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Germany, where he was serving his country.
 

FACULTY/COMMUNITY

Benanti, Eleonor, longtime Vicenza Elementary School teacher, passed away February 13, 2004 due to complications from emphazema.
Dempsey, Lenny (Coach "D"), Basketball, Football, and Track coach, leader, Teacher, Mentor, Friend, Colleague, Husband and Father, died July 7, 2001. (Lenny's Farewell Letter, "My Friend Lenny D" by Don Drakulich)
Hacket, John ("Logman"), the SETAF Provost Marshall from 1981-1985 and father to "Stick", "Twig", and Amy, died of a massive coronary on September 12, 2000.

Martin, Lella, VES Italian Teacher and Class in the Snow Instructor, died in 2000 after a long battle with Cancer
Monteith, Russell, VHS Teacher from 1959-1985, died Christmas Day 1997 after battling a long illness.
Spittal, Carol, Part-time VHS Dorm Counselor (and Mother/Aunt to 4 VHS alumni), died June 30, 2000 after a short cancer related illness. (click to read her memorial)
Tait, Diane, VHS Booster Club President in 1989 and the mother of Greg ('89) and Tracey ('92), died in March of 2003.

Urner, Doug (Papa Bear), Former Director of Morale Support Activities, VHS Father and supporter and one of the founders of the Italian Professional Football League was aid to rest in 1999. (click to read his memorial)
